Hey JoAnn -
You make elderberry wine, right? I was thinking about making some blackberry wine, and I'm wondering if you've got special fancy wine making equipment. What are campden tablets, and do you need them?
If you get a chance, I'd love some pointers.
Thanks!
Jen

Ha! Thanks for the info! We have a bunch of recycled wine & apple juice bottles, so that's a start....

Jen, Jim's the winemaker. He makes a wine with elderberries and almost anything else he can throw in. I asked him about the campden tablets and he says they kill the wild yeast and bacteria that can grow in wine (one's you don't want) You can eliminate them but you have to make sure everything is really really clean. Makes it a lot easier. He has the little doohinkies that go on stop. Most of the big jugs he has scrounged from reclying. Also big white buckets are good for one step. Jim even reuses wine boxes for storing his wine. Of course we don't usually serve his wine for guests : ) He is in the process of making raspberry wine with no added fruits. I even dumpster dived at reclying for clear bottles for that wine. JoAnn
