Posted - Sep 01 2008 : 10:01:22 AM Sorry folks I have to bring her up, I know, you're sick of politics, but you might not read this in the news because they only talk about what a great hunting alaskan mother she is, but....
She believes in shooting wolves from helicopters......
She single handedly undermined our clean water initiative because of her ties to the mining community. Now Bristol Bay will face what happens when you put a large open pit mine at the headwaters of one of the most pristine pieces of wilderness in the world and one of the most important salmon fisheries.
All this because most people didn't read what the clean water initiative was about and just listened to Sara.
She is outrageously inexperienced, has absolutely no knowledge of life outside of Wasilla, population 7,500. I would like my world leader to know something about the world.
She thinks global warming is a farce and does not want the polar bear put on the endangered list.
I had to vent, sorry, we're so angry about her being put on the ticket! It was so patronizing to see this. She may be a great mother (if you think packing your four month old off on friends and family while you serve your own ego). As well as your other children.
I won't say another word although there is more, but please look beyond the big smile, witty personality. We deserve more than this!

Posted - Sep 17 2008 : 4:01:41 PM I read this article in Women's Adventure & thought it was WAYYYY nearsighted. Obviously, I wasn't alone. Check it out: http://www.womensadventuremagazine.com/articles/sept08/dirt0908.html

Posted - Sep 17 2008 : 10:39:21 AM Wouldn't that be nice, a candidate that was REAL! It is so frustrating that we only have 2 choices, what happened to the green party? It is difficult to participate when you don't agree. I would definately vote for Jane Goodall!!

Posted - Sep 13 2008 : 12:53:06 PM I forgot to tell you! I saw Jane Goodall in 1983....... I'll never forget her. Her views were visionary, she is truly a class act.

Posted - Sep 13 2008 : 12:50:54 PM Politics is beginning to get out of hand here. Women have been threatened for being anti-Palin, there was a rally this morning where organizers were called at home and threatened.
People speak in hushed tones, afraid to express their opinions, but so MANY are speaking up. I can't tell you how strange all of this is.
All politics aside, I am concerned about our country and how all of this is dividing us. We should be respectful of each other. We're women for goodness sakes, we're better than this!
Thanks for listening to me here..........

Posted - Sep 13 2008 : 07:59:11 AM Yea democracy lives! I don't think this topic should be locked. If I don't like what I read I just click away. I just ask that people make up their minds with their minds not emotions. The fact are there. I do wonder whether she would have been picked if she wan't such a pretty, perky straight shooting woman. Welcome back Jen.

Posted - Sep 12 2008 : 4:57:38 PM THANK YOU, JO!!! I am so glad to hear a real Alaskan outdoor woman's perspective. I wanted to be charmed by Palin's straight-shooter persona, but I keep hearing the environmental negatives associated with her, and that seals my vote against the Repubs who don't really deserve an environmentalist's vote anyway, right? Personally, I'm VERY unsatisfied with the choices we have before us. I may just have to write in somebody as a protest - how about Jane Goodall?? This topic won't be locked if I have anything to say about it. Keep talkin', girls, just don't sling any mud at one another.

Posted - Sep 03 2008 : 08:11:45 AM I'm pretty sure it's ok to talk about politics on this forum, in fact as long as it is civil we should be talking about it more! The elections are coming up and people have a right to know what is going on. I personally have already made up my mind on who I am voting for, but I absolutely did not know one thing about Sara Palin. I had a hunch about her so it is nice to know that my feeling was right. We deserve better as a country and although I have a hard time believing that any one person is ever capable of this, it is even more reason that we need to band together with positive ideals for our future. What else do we have but our positive outlook and our vote? Not all politics discussions have to be dirty. Happy voting everyone

Posted - Sep 01 2008 : 2:42:32 PM Thanks so much, I just worry about our country so much. We just see pretty faces and don't look beyond. We have so much to be concerned about for our children's futures. I won't offer anymore political opinions! But I will always respect my fellow women and their concerns...... jo

Posted - Sep 01 2008 : 1:09:07 PM Jo, Before they lock this topic I agree with you wholeheartedly. My son who lives in Alaska agrees with you.(Can't wait to hear what he has to say about this.) Sad to say (my opinion) many people would agree with Palin. Also, unfortunately politics is not suppose to be talked about on this forum. I skip over many topics here I don't wish to participate it or would cause me to shout at the computer: )Peace JoAnn. P.S. I could never understand why poor underprivledged people would vote over their best interests until my son steered me to the book "Deer Hunting with Jesus". It explained a lot.
