Hello, my name is Tina,

After much looking and going back and forth about a moterhome vs Travel trailer vs toyhauler or camper shell, I keep coming back the the easy to tow little Teardrop trailers.

When looking to buy one I soon realized that most of them were hand made to suit a persons own needs.

Which brought me to commission my carpenter step dad to take a whirl at making one.

Have any of you made one or known anyone who has?

We are open to all sugestions! also RV parts suppliers that you may recomend.

I will try to keep an update as to the progress if I can or at least a details as I try it out the summer..

Pick up is set for July in Idaho where they live!

I LQQK forward to hearing from you!
Thanks,
Tina

Hello! I do love those little teardrop trailers. So cute. We had an old Shasta pop up that our Pastor gave us. I'm talking OLD. It did it's job though. I was able to cook inside, kept us dry & warm etc. But no potty. Then the hubby saw one at a trailer show that had a potty. Camping with 3 women (me & our 2 daughters) we need that for the middle of the night. During the day is no problem.

I do hope you'll post some pictures of your project! I'd love to see it.

Tina,
I understand completely!.. if I didn't have a porta-potty & a pee-pee tepee (a little tent-like structure that's just right for the potty), I probably would be thinking like you... my teardrop plans arrived a couple of days ago... I took a quick look at the DVD, but haven't really studied it... I have a feeling it'll be later on in the year, maybe this fall, before I start the project... I'll let you know how it goes...

Next month, I'm going tent camping at Caprock Canyons State Park, here in the Texas Panhandle... everybody thinks the Panhandle is just miles & miles of emptiness, as far as the eye can see, so Caprock Canyons is a big surprise... see some pictures at http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/caprock_canyons/ ...

Well, I am here to somewhat sadly say I have changed my mind about the Teardrop.... Last week we went camping near Alamo lake in AZ. I took with me the tent I had planed on using with the teardrop and all was good... except.. using the bathroom inside the motorhome of my mom was quit nice and since we will be in very remote places I am going to look for a tiny travel trailer with a way to get out of the wind and a ladies room! ; ) I hope you all understand... but using the ground is less "Glamperous" than my daughter and I want to be at this point! We've done it for years and we're over it! LOL

I will still be interested in what you are doing LeslieAnne! cant wait to see!

Awesome LeslieAnne! I have minimal carpentry skill hence begging my step dad to do it.. He is retired master carpenter as well as welding skills. I wish I could do it my self but I don't want it to leak or worse! :)
I admire your efforts! let us know how it goes!

Tina,
I won the bid on the teardrop plans, so I'm just waiting for them to get here so I can check them out... I'm not a master carpenter, but I might still give it a try... the guy said he used only minimal tools & that's great for me...

That's great! I have also found great plans on line for free... Check out Luxotear by Westhoff Woodcrafts, the plans don't include all the details of construction. but enough to get the job done. I was just thinking about how I was going to get the pictures here as it goes...I will work on that.. maybe a web page???

I am just stoked that is is finally going to come to be. We were going to buy a trailer chasi (sp?) but because we want to make it 6 x 10 we have decided it will be easier to start from the ground up. Also my Dad has an axel from a different trailer he is donating to my cause, so that will keep the cost down. Leslie, it is great to hear you are venturing down the same road... let me know how it's going and i will do the same! :)

Hi Tina,
I signed onto Outpost tonight SPECIFICALLY to see if anybody had built a teardrop camper!!!.. I just put in a bid on eBay for a DVD with plans & instructions... it's the guy's own drawings, not copies of the old plans from a magazine... I hope I win the bid & that I'll be able to build one... how neat that you're getting one built... I hope you'll keep us up to date with photos? &/or reports...
