Posted - May 20 2008 : 10:15:32 AM I mentioned in another post that my hub is reading Henry Schoolcraft's journal from his travels in the Ozarks. Schoolcraft was an American geographer, geologist, and ethnologist, noted for his early studies of Native American cultures as well as for his "discovery" in 1832 of the source of the Mississippi River. I almost bought the journal for Chris, but then I found it online at http://history.missouristate.edu/FTMiller/LocalHistory/Schoolcraft/schcrftcomplete.htm. So much of it took place right around here, and it's fascinating to peek into the natural history of this area. We're always dreaming about the days when elk, buffalo, and wolves were still roaming around these very woods...
