The birders in the area are a twitter since a sighting of a Great Grey Owl was reported. Seemed to come out around late afternoon just off a county road. Guess they are unusual for this area. We went to see it and we got a good look. It's very active and stays close to the road which turns out might not be a good idea. Someone report an injured owl to our Raptor Rescue group in the vicinity of where the Great Grey was seen. They never found it and I don't think it's been spotted since. It could have been hit by a car or worse yet some idiot shot it. JoAnn

That would be so neat, Deb! If you do it, please let us know what type of owl you have! Owls fascinate me! I think they are one of those birds that people don't think about very often.

How beautiful! I sure hope nothing happened to it. 60" wing span, that's huge.

We found owl pellets under the pine tree next door last winter. Have not seen nor heard an owl. We keep hoping we see it. Have no idea what kind it could be. Talked to a nature center and they told us to bring in the owl pellets and they have a man there that could tell us what kind it was depending on what it was eating. We may still take them in.

Oh No! That would be horrible, JoAnn! I had to look up some information on the Great Grey. It has been so long since I read anything about owls (I remember doing a report on them in 3rd grade!)

Their wingspan can top 60 inches! They are very beautiful. I hope it comes back and isn't injured!
