Posted - Feb 08 2009 : 1:52:12 PM Friday as I was walking to pick the girls up from school I saw a hawk sitting up on an electrical post. He/she was beautiful!!! I believe it was a harrier hawk http://www.illinoisraptorcenter.org/Field%20Guide/harrier.html or perhaps a coopers hawk http://www.illinoisraptorcenter.org/Field%20Guide/cooper.html
Today, my youngest was out roller blading and spotted a hawk on a neighbors fence. Since she's not so quiet when she roller blades, it flew up into the power wires. Hubby & I came out to have a look and it appears to be the same type of hawk.
We've been finding lots of feathers under our neighbors pine tree. Wonder if the hawk is keeping the owl away?
I snapped a picture just as the hawk was taking off from the line - then my camera died! I'll upload it after the battery is charged.

Posted - Feb 10 2009 : 08:36:56 AM No matter how many times I see hawks and eagles I am excited. My drive into town takes me across a narrow valley. Mainly farm fields. There are two large trees near the river and there usually is a hawk or bald eagle sitting there. Always makes my day. JoAnn

I caught it as it was diving down. Not a very good picture though. It was still exciting.
