In addition to nature sounds, I also enjoy the sound of the wind. Everything from a gentle breeze up to a nice clear-the-sky out wind. I find it comforting, as I grew up in a very windy valley, so especially at night it's almost like listening to a "put me to sleep cd". Now windstorms, or other weather disturbances involving wind are not common in my area, so I suppose this is all relative to where you live and your experiences.
Anyone else enjoy the wind? |

I enjoy the wind too. Always have. It just feels good. Of course there is wind and there is WIND!!

I am the exact opposite! I grew up in a pretty much windless area and so never learned to appreciate the wind. When it did blow through my area it was more of a dusty nuisance than a pleasure.
However where I live now is windy often and in the past 5 years I have started to learn to appreciate the wind. Still- days when it is raining and windy are hard for me to appreciate completely.
I do however appreciate the "hole up and hide" feeling that those days create. Nothing better than to grab a good book and curl up in front of a big fire- or in my case a toasty radiator. :)

Clare~ I agree! My most favorite sound is the wind blowing through a pine tree. It instantly settles me...makes me feel such a level of comfort like nothing else. That sound instantly resets my mood.

Wind whispering through pines, rustling prairie grass, or billowing through the deciduous canopy - I love it! The wind used to scare me as a kid. In MO it always seemed it might bring a tornado, and in the CO foothills, it sounded like it would blow the roof off our house.
Living on the island in WA, Chris & I experienced wind like never before - it roared up to 70mph, squealed through cracks in the doors, and actually bowed the windows (until we closed the big wooden shutters that the USFWS installed because a previous year's storm had blown rocks from the beach 200 feet below THROUGH the front windows!!). You don't want to be out on the water in that kind of wind. Trust me, we figured that out the hard way  ! In the ever-blustery Kittitas Valley in central WA, the wind got old. It was chilly and relentless - battered our garden and kept us inside a lot.
Here in AR, the breeze is often balmy, and in the heat of summer, wind will be a blessing to say the least!

| Jen, Guess where I grew up? Near Kittitas... along Cooke Creek on the northeast side of the valley! Yes, it does howl there and gets cold, but my memories as a child were different because I didn't have to work in it. I do remember summers as being calm, though. I'm sure my mom and dad would have another story altogether, but I was safe and protected in our old house, hence the warm memories. |

I have always loved the wind as I mentioned before. I took this picture today at Padilla Bay. the wind was blowing so hard the gulls were either flying backwards or hanging in the air.

The wind is blowing in a storm as we speak. As it rushes through the trees, it blocks out all the city noise. The leaves rustling and the sound of the wind through the conifers is great and very soothing. My windchime and my neighbors are adding their own melodies to the gusts and our long grass is laying down flat in the wind.

| Thanks for popping this up Elizaray, I had gotten to see the gulls floating... cool shot MB! The osprey get a free ride on the afternoon gales... speaking of which I'm going to go hoist a sail. |

No wind here just now, but we've had some fantastic balmy gusts amid thunderstorms throughout the day. I think it's so cool to get these little tastes of eachother's lives in our different places. I have such awful wanderlust, sometimes I wish I could be everywhere at once. Other times, precious moments, I'm content being still right where I am.
