Has anyone owned one? I have a small lot in the woods on Whidbey island and would like to build a small cabin there and be as self sufficient as can be. Years ago when I was into Mother Earth Mag. they always advertised them and I was interested then but had other priorities at that time. Thanks

Hi MB, I don't know much about them but am interested too. Looked online & found a bunch of comments on their stinkiness, but one site had only good stuff to say. Here's a tidbit: "BATCH SYSTEMS or a container filled and then replaced with an empty container, or in the case of Spiral Island's loo, it was a CONTINUAL PROCESS SYSTEM. These systems are in a constant state of composting as waste enters the system, and then composting reduces the volume and moves it downward where it is harvested after 6-12 months as fully composted material." I went online also and found a lot of stuff. Biolet has different models from, as they say, bucket and chuck it, to a fancy all automated electric batch system. To keep the odor down I think you need the automated to have continuous fan movement as opposed to another type of movement (small chuckle). I found it all quite interesting but not knowing all the terminology it gets confusing. I'll check out the site you found. They can be expensive also. I really would like to see one in actual use, though. thanks, MB
