Chris saw some turkeys out the window last night, grabbed his gun, and set out after them in a cold rain. Within 10 minutes he was walking back with a bird - pretty impressive! The girls were giddy. Reminded me of Laura & Mary Ingalls with their Pa. So, we're eating turkey tonight with sweet potatoes & cranberries (why wait for Thanksgiving?).
How was the turkey? I've never eaten a wild one. How do you cook it? Are they tough? I suppose they don't have much white meat which I like. I should have Jim get a license and get one since they sit on our deck all the time. He could just sit in the rocker in the living room and open a window and get one: )JoAnn
It was the first wild turkey I'd ever eaten, too, and it was delicious! It was a fairly small hen, so maybe the meat was more tender than a big tom, but I pan-fried/sauteed it in olive oil with just a bit of salt and basil (the only herb I had on had that sounded ok). Very mild taste - enjoyed by all!
