Hi Susan! So nice to "hear" your voice over here at the Outpost. The women here have talked before about the healing power of nature - it's where we belong, and so it grounds us like nothing else. I admire your ability to accept such a hugely ground-shaking event as your mom's passing and allow it to refocus your life. Change (especially tragic change) is so difficult, but it seems like only when we let it take us forth - like a river current - do our spirits blossom & evolve. Sounds like your birthday retreat is just what you need - enjoy!

My copy sat on the kitchen table under a big pile of "stuff" for a few days before I found it. Laughing at myself here... Dave had just piled a bunch of "stuff" on the table and I was in a snit, thinking I'd out wait him in cleaning up the table. Gosh, was I ever steamed at myself when I realized I could have been reading my MJ book days ago! -grin- BTW, my latest MJ books is Stitching Room; Dave bought the Outpost for me a few months ago and I've enjoyed it greatly. I don't have children, nor grandchildren, but enjoyed every single page. Just seeing the joy on the little one's faces did my heart good. All Mary Jane's books are like having a pot of tea and a chin wag with an old friend, and I'm grateful.

One of the things I love most about the books is the photography. I lose myself for hours just looking at the pictures, and then reading the text that goes along with it is like the icing on the cake! I really find that my mental focus shifts when I have been reading the books and magazines. I find that I actually feel more focused on the everyday and get more enjoyment out of what I am doing here at home for/with Nora and Doug. Isn't it amazing how something can be inspirational in so many ways. Sometimes things can be inspirational and you feel like you got shocked by an electric current. You have to get up and do something NOW. Sometimes the MJF things affect me like that. But sometimes it is a more subtle and long lasting type of inspiration. The type of inspiration that niggles at your mind and instead of evocking immediate change- it changes your frame of mind and really your whole life in slow and gentle way. |

Alee- I agree. I feel much the same way. Some days I feel like I need to dig out a notebook and pen and take notes like I do when studying for school! There is so much knowledge to absorb- but in a much nicer form than a text book!

I get the notebook itch, too, Elizaray. Just too many blossoming inspirations to keep track of. And whether or not they all come to pass, they do influence a gradual positive change in our lives, as Alee said. Good stuff!

Exactly, Jen! I do feel that re-reading is one key to get it all to sink in slowly but surely!

ok, so I know this post was started back in Apr...but I have to tell you what a BAD Girl I am....I was in "Aunties Book Store" yesterday while in town....I was rummaging thru all the camping/fishing/trailer books & I came across their last MJF Outpost (even signed) but it was sort of behind some other books,,,,guess what I did,,,yep I 'rearrainged' the books & made sure MJ's book to prominance right up front! I am such a little stinker....that will teach the guys not to hide MJ's book behind the fly fishing books! lol!

LOL! That is so funny Grace! Have you been by to check on your placement lately? I wonder if someone was hiding it so they could make sure it was still there when they went back to buy it?

Hi everyone, I have MJ's Outpost book and I can't put it down! It is SO inspiring, I've NEVER come across the likes of a woman like Mary Jane before. Mary Jane is truly a special, unique and inspiring woman. It is a breath of fresh air to be a part of this forum and of the other farmgirl connection forum. I finally get to connect with other women who hold the same values as I do- and if it wasn't for Mary Jane, I never would of found any of them. I know own all of her books, and will buy any others she ever writes. I hope to meet her some day. Connie
