Can anyone recommend some affordable, good birding binoculars......preferrably smallish? Not the smallest, but very portable? Thanks.

Mary Ann, My husband has been birding since his teens (he's now 63)He has found a pair of binocs that he really likes that are small, waterproof, lightweight and relatively inexpensive(around $80). They are Olympus 8 x 23 WPI Field 5.5 He gets them mail order. If you want the company name I'll ask him when he gets back. I have a pair and I really like them--especially because they are so lightweight. Happy Birding JoAnn

Oh, that is great to know - thanks, Jo Ann. I've been using the same dilapidated pair that my boyfriend's dad gave me in college SO many years ago I always loved them because they were small and auto-focusing - and even camouflaged. But after years of use & kid abuse, only one side still works...sorta. It's a pathetic state of affairs for people like us who love bird watching. I admit I just never really learned what the # x # stuff meant, and didn't want to cheap out on a new pair that wasn't up to par. $80 sounds like a good deal, especially recommended by Jim!
