I've been away a bit, I know you're all on your adventures as well! Ptarmigan/Grouse season begins in just a couple of weeks. We went on a trek to find new country and birds for 6 days and were rewarded with the sight of many healthy flocks of birds. They'll disperse towards fall. It was amazing to see a large flock of grouse all together gathering grit and talking their way back into the boreal forest. We found Ptarmigan over Thompson pass on the way to Valdez alaska on the coastline. These were Rock Ptarmigan, brown all over with white wings. They are stunning beautiful. I bought a dream catcher in Valdez made from Grouse tail feathers to decorate our hunting headquarters and bring good bird karma!!
blueberries were everywhere. By the time we leave to hunt, the chill of the air will sweeten the berries!
It is getting dark out now, 8:59 in the evening, we'll be midway again soon towards winter solstice and the dark of the winter!

Cool, Jo! We've got fat little Bobwhites here that look pretty tasty...Getting dark around 9:00 here too, and not getting light until close to 6:00 - ugh. I really feel best when I rise at sunrise, but don't usually have the luxury during fall/winter months. Happy hunting
hey jo welcome back missed ya! ya prolly would have thought I'd be thinking about now especially when it comes to mudbugs... tho there ya were in my mind when I got a call from a buddy returning a message re I had mudbugs that she was in Alaska until Aug8. I have been working overnights so my schedule is all on the darkside... tho having my days off, made for time to take in the local sport season. On the way out we saw a ton of roseate spoonbills. I don't know if ya have them way over on the left coast... maybe MB will chime in ... They are pink and white with little hints of red and then some yellow on their tails. Watched them eat shrimp and mollusks.
where is your hunting headquarters? do you make like a duckstand?
